Parineeti and Raghav in Udaipur: the lakeside wedding, refined

In September 2023, actor Parineeti Chopra married politician Raghav Chadha at the Leela Palace in Udaipur, on the shore of Lake Pichola, in a wedding that refined rather than escalated the Bollywood formula. No global superstars flown in, no months of pre events, but a tightly composed weekend, a family sangeet at which the bride herself performed, a lakeside ceremony, and a palette, ivory, white and gold against Udaipur's water light, that photographers have been imitating since.

Udaipur, the eternal venue

If Jodhpur weddings are sandstone drama and Jaisalmer weddings are desert gold, Udaipur is water: palaces that seem to float, ceremonies staged against the lake, boats delivering couples to their own receptions. The city has been India's wedding capital for decades, and the Chopra Chadha weekend renewed its claim for a new generation, with the Leela's lawns and the Taj Lake Palace across the water forming the backdrop to a thousand subsequent enquiries. The restraint dividend

Parineeti's bridal look, a hand embroidered ivory lehenga with a veil worked in the couple's initials, continued the soft palette era but pushed it toward formality: pearls, minimal colour, the bride's grandmother's touchstones woven in. A film star marrying a serving politician gave the wedding an unusual double audience, and the couple managed it with a simple settlement: a fully private event, followed by a set of released photographs and one video of the bride's sangeet performance of a song she recorded herself. Sincerity, it turns out, is the one production value that cannot be hired, and it is the thing every couple watching can copy for free.
